Caroline Bergvall
As a performer Caroline Bergvall embodies the European strangeness and
appeal Americans once found in the actress Anouk Aimee and for which we
now celebrate Bjork. As an artist she explores the hidden links between
global commerce and the physical body in a way that has analogues with
the practice of the US video and installation artist Matthew Barney. As
a poet Bergvall travels light years beyond conventional ideas of the line,
the phrase, syntax, language usage and subject matter, exploring as she
does a marvelous, scary post-colonial world of broken signs and signals
beautiful in decay. Her books include ECLAT and Goan Atom.
She is the Director of Performance Writing at Dartington College of Arts
(UK).
