Blau DuPlessis
A Pennsylvania legend, our long-time friend and role model Rachel Blau DuPlessis.
Much honored for her criticism and editorial work, Rachel Blau DuPlessis
is a writer whose work should be read by anyone who enjoys brilliant poetry,
or distinguished literature. A few weeks ago we had Myung Mi Kim decrying
the "economy of fixity," here, in DuPlessis, we have a writer
whose major work consists entirely of "Drafts"the title
of her long poem in progress from which she will read tonight. She is the
author of three important books of criticism as well as the following books
of poetry: Drafts 15-XXX: The Fold (1997); Drafts (3-14) (1991);
and Tabula Rosa (1987) all from Potes and Poets. She has edited the
letters of George Oppen and, with Ann Snitow, the new The Feminist Memoir
Project: Voices from Women's Liberation
