Paul Hoover's poetry is by turns moving, menacing, and numinous, as voices from all over the human condition come to invade the quiet boundaries between the here and now, the word and the open space. His mind is a vast skylight opening out onto distant planets and the smoke from the chimney next door. Paul Hoover has published six books of poetry including Viridian (University of Georgia Press, 1997) and The Novel: A Poem (New Directions, 1990). His New & Selected Poems will be published by Talisman House in the spring. Author of a novel, Saigon, Illinois (Vintage Contemporaries, 1988), he is also editor of the anthology Postmodern American Poetry (W. W. Norton) and co-editor with Maxine Chernoff of the literary magazine New American Writing.
