Erin Mouré is one of Canada's greatest poets. Her restless
poetic presence on the Canadian scene has been praised, questioned,
rewarded, scorned, embraced, doubted since the late 70s. Originally from
Calgary , she now lives in Montreal and, having been recently "downsized",
now works as a freelance editor and translator. In her writing, "the
body, women's bodies in particular, and language intersect to dislocate
expectation and reinvent the world." She has published seven books
of poetry including Furious (which won the Governor General's Award
- the Pulitzer Prize of Canada, except more so). Her poetry has been collected
in The Green Word: Selected Poems 1973-1992 (Oxford University Press).
Her most recent books are Sheepish Beauty, Civilian Love (Vehicule,
Montreal, 1992) and Search Procedures (Anansi, Toronto, 1996).
