Bob Perelman is a well-known figure in the Bay Area. Many of us still refuse to believe that he left six years ago to become Assistant Professor of English at Penn. His recent books of criticism are The Marginalization of Poetry, which examines the work of his colleagues in the Language movement; and a controversial account of Joyce, Pound, Stein, and Zukofsky, The Trouble With Genius. But we will not let the furor that has surrounded the publication of these books to overshadow his incandescence as a poet--and we will make him read poems at this event. He has, after all, published ten volumes of poetry (the latest is Virtual Reality from Roof Press).
