Susan Wheeler came to read for us once before, years ago now, and we were bedazzled and intrigued by her complex blend of vocal polyphony, horrid puns, witty allusion and deep, deep incisions into the fabric of writing. Now she comes back to us again, the sharp, elegant embodiment of La Niña. Wheeler is the author of Smokes , the 1996 winner of the Four Way Books Award Series, selected by Robert Hass. She also wrote Bag O'Diamonds (University of Georgia Press), chosen by James Tate for the Poetry Society of America's Norma Farber Award for a first book of poetry in 1994. A member of the writing faculty at the New School for Social Research's MFA Program in Writing, she is currently a Poetry Fellow of the New York Foundation for the Arts.
